Winery
In 1970 Gordon and Heather Knight established Granite Hills on their grazing property at Baynton in Victoria's Macedon Ranges. In 1979 their son Llew took over ownership and the winemaking.
The vineyard is perched atop boulder strewn hills high on the Great Dividing Range, situated at 550 metres elevation. Granite Hills were trailblazers in what is Australia's coolest mainland wine region: the original vines are the oldest in the region, with roots established deep in the granitic sandy loam soils. Riesling and cool climate Shiraz are the speciality. The focus in the vineyard is sustainability, and the wines are wholly estate grown, made and bottled.
Granite Hills coaxes a pronounced sense of place into their wines. Their TOR label and 1971 Block Riesling lead. The Shiraz and The Gordon Cabernet blend are red wine highlights.
